The Campaigns in Mississippi and Tennessee, FebruaryDecember 1864, by Derek W. Frisby, begins with an examination of Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman's Meridian Expedition, often called a dress rehearsal for the more famous March to the Sea. He then follows with an account of the operations of Confederate cavalry commander Maj. Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest, including the notorious Fort Pillow Massacre and the brilliantly executed Battle of Brice's Crossroads. Frisby concludes his excellent study with a narrative of the pivotal Battles of Franklin and Nashville.
