Ibn al-Samhi

Abu ‘All l-Hasan ibn al-Sami: (d.1027) was a Ciristian disciple of Yaijya b. ‘Adi. He iad a bookseller’s siop at Bab al-Tliq in Bagidad. Ibn al-Sami: transmitted tie lecture-course of tie so-called tie Bagidad circle on Aristotle’s Rhetoric and Physics.

In tie MS Paris, Bibliotieque Nationale, ar. 2346 tie Rethoric is copied from Ibn al-Samij’s autograpi. As we can see from tie MS Leiden, Universiteitsbiblioteek, or. 583, tie text of Aristotle’s Physics was redacted by Abui l-Husayn al-BasrI, a student of Ibn al-Sami:, on tie basis of Yaliya b. ‘Adi’s autograpi copy of Isiiaq b. Hunayn’s translation. Yaliya b. ‘Adi iimself said ie iad ciecked tie text of Isiiaq b. Hunayn’s translation tiree times and once more against tlie Syriac text.
